  2. I love reading your blog. I especially love the way you paint a picture with your words. Your description of the salt marsh in Riding in Boats through the Salt Marsh is dead on. I can feel the wind on my face and smell the salt air when I read it. One of my favorite posts is Something My Father Never Knew. It still brings tears to my eyes when I read it.

    You have a wonderful gift of writing. I’m so proud of you.

  6. In the Mother’s day edition of the wordpress.com email highlighting various blogs, you were there and because you live in Virginia and I live in Virgina…I thought I should check her out! Well I’m a fan! Love your style and I too, have thoughts, memories, recollections and voices in my head which should be written down. I am also a wordpress fan and am very slowly working on my own blog…guess I better speed that up! Thanks for the inspiration Andrea!

        I have so much to learn but every day I’m accomplishing more. It’s fun and exciting to have an outlet for all these voices in my head! I’ve been working on the “layout” but will have that finished soon and then can add more of my thoughts and stories… thanks for the input!

  7. Hi Andrea! Hope all is well. I just posted something of my own on my page and I wanted to see what’s new in WordPress. Of course it didn’t long for your graph to catch my attention! Congrats on the emails that made your heart jump a little bit and may those moments keep you sane when you receive those less than pleasant emails that we all get from time to time. I’m slowly becoming a blogger myself, but I enjoy reading other blogs as well. Take care.

  9. Andrea, you are so good at writing, it’s hard for me to believe you’d ever get clogged ( writer’s block ). Even your post about the dentist visit was interesting, I think you approximated the sound of the dreaded drill even better than Stephen King could’ve. I mean, I grimaced, and my teeth gritted.
    The decision to be a southern writer, while a good one, shouldn’t have come very hard. I mean, you never hear of northern writers, and northern food. They exist, of course, Hemingway, and Sherwood Anderson, and scrapple and lukefisk. Of course, those writers wrote of the north, sparringly, and those two foods aren’t worth writing about.
    Check me out at timoliver@likethedew.com. The bottle-digging and urban coyote stories are grand examples of how editing isn’t my strong suit. The reviews of Donald Ray Pollock and Driveby Truckers are signs that Like the Dew must’ve had a slim submission week. Hey, they’re worth a giggle or two.

  10. I’ve been enjoying your blog, especially loved the latest post about your son thinking it’d be ‘cool’ if you were an author. I’m a voracious reader, mostly non-fiction and especially about the craft of writing as of late. I finished homeschooling my daughter last year, so have taken to reading historical romances in my spare time too. I mostly write non-fiction. I especially love memoirs, essays, and poetry. I’ve been a little slow writing lately…trying to heal a bit of caregiver burnout. I live the next state over in NC, but many of my relatives live in VA, both are beautiful places. Keep up the wonderful writing and inspiring blog. 🙂

Moore; The Writer’s Home Companion : An Anthology of the World’s Best Writing Advice, from Keats to Kunitz; Bird by Bird by Anne Lamont; and Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg.

    None of my business, of course, but if you haven’t read any Siddons yet, read P’tree Rd first. Siddons isn’t fantastic, but having been born in Atlanta, and gone to E. Rivers Elem, and knowing the people and time she wrote about, I was totally seduced by PRd. I will never (never say never!) read another of her books, simply because none could strike me the way PRd did. I will discover her technique, her style, her soul if you will, and will no longer like the book as much. Prd was a little before my time, but I knew older kids, erstwhile “Pinks and Jells”….only a brief period I didn’t, myself, live through. I am un-ashamedly biased toward PRd. Besides, Siddons was born in Atl, I can’t believe she could write about any other place better than her own hometown.

    I´m from Portugal and just came across your blog (I´m a recent blogger and yours was one of the recommended by wordpress).
    After reading through “why batterfly mind ?” I felt so related that I had to leave you a note!
    I too suffer from the syndrome of “not being hable to stick with one thing long enough to become truly skilled”. The problem is that we have so many ideas springing out that one life can not be enough to materialize them all. We don´t have time to waste!

    I discovered your site by accident. My son is in the midst of a thru-hike of the appalachian trail. One way for me to ‘follow’ his travels is to search for pictures and descriptions of the places he goes. Thus, I found your site. Your pictures are great. Your stories are even better. I hope you don’t mind, I sent a link to this site along with my weekly thru-hike email update to friends and families. I just wanted to say how much I like your site. Accidents are often good things.

I thought it would be easy as well, because who would know me better than me? Huge misconception I guess when I had to put in on paper. Looking forward to reading your other posts.   37. Hi, Andrea! Remember me from the branding class? Just stopped by to say “hi” and to thank you for all the inspiration.

    Since that class, I’ve changed fonts on my second blog for the third time; I’m sticking with the color theme and I’ve created a blavatar for the blog, but I think the overall focus is a bit weighty and needs lightening up a bit (still serious, but less redundant in spots. more reflective, and maybe a little whimsical).

    I like your idea of the 10 minutes (Time & Topics) and am starting to use it now. Looking forward to reading more here! See you soon!~~Robin
