On a recent work trip to New Orleans, I woke early several mornings to go for a run along the street car tracks. Morning runs, in the quiet before the world wakes, are a treasured time for solitude for me. On the morning in this shot, I returned from a 7am run drenched in sweat. My coworkers were asleep. The neighborhood was asleep. Birds tweeted and the pool was still and cool. I dove in in my running clothes, then floated on my back with my ears underwater, alone and smiling.
Out of interest, how is New Orleans recovering from Hurricane Katrina? After reading a few posts about New Orleans tonight, I was telling my husband that it would be a great place to visit and he mentioned that it is still recovering from Katrina and I just wondered what your insights were. xx Rowena

I get up ridiculously early to take my dog for a walk. I love the fact that my neighbors aren’t up yet, and there are no cars on the street. The birds are only just waking up and it’s so quiet that I can feel like I’m the only one around. Beautiful.

Solitude is great(most of the time). Get to wander in my thoughts. Great times!

I love the solitude of walking the dog, especially when I’m uptight or worried about something. I can get my mind straight, am more observant and smile at the little things such as a bird singing in the tree or a flower about to bloom. I always get back home relaxed and more even tempered.

Good for you! I started running when I was in college at Baton Rouge so I know what kind of sweaty fun that is. And, I’ve jogged in NO when hubby was on a business trip. Now that I am finally out of humidity I no longer run, what’s up with that? I hope you jumped in that pool to cool off!!

I love this picture and the description that goes with it, you capture the scene so vividly. As a runner myself, I know exactly the feeling you are talking about. I love running into and out of my solitude, too.
