We didn’t play it safe

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I were contemplating painting our living room an unusual color. We stressed — do we go safe or do we go bold?

We decided to go bold. We painted the room a dark dark grey — almost a charcoal. A few nights later, the pizza delivery guy squinted into the room and asked, “Are your walls black?”

“No, they’re grey,” I said. I looked inside. I love our walls.

His eyes got wide and he smiled. “Cool,” he said.

Yeah, I think so too πŸ™‚

  1. I did that to our bedroom so it was REALLY dark when I needed to sleep off migraine attacks (I had a LOT of them at one time), but when it came to selling the place, I repainted them magnolia to match the rest of the house, so it wouldn’t put off potential buyers πŸ˜€

  2. Gorgeous! When I read your header I thought “yay!” πŸ™‚ Now I need to follow your shining example and take the plunge, too…

  3. all four of them? I would love to see that! Is it a wooden floor? How about the ceiling? Sorry for being curious … you started it πŸ™‚

  4. Glad it worked out for you :)~ WAS wondering! as contract handyman workers we paint some weird colors ideas that don’t always work but have to use their paint

  5. I like the color, but I would never have courage for four walls. Glad it came out great for you. Do you use any accent color? Are all accents white or off white?

  6. Andrea, I love this look! The charcoal gray with the white trim and furnishings provides a nice contrast. I wondered what the finished result would look like, and I know that more of the HGTV home improvement and fixer-upper shows are showing how this is done. Looks like you’ve got a look that’ll still look fresh for a long time! πŸ™‚
