We’ve been wanting a boat our whole married lives, and in fact have had a few. My husband built wooden kayaks for us before we had kids. And we also had a fiberglass sailboat for a minute.
Then we had children.
Really we can’t blame them. The boats we had weren’t right for us. Like our daughter not practicing guitar because the songs she learned didn’t speak to her, the boats we owned didn’t resonate with us. They were more work than fun.
This summer, though, we wanted to try again. We want to give our kids experiences, and we don’t have that many more years with them at home with us.
So we bought a boat. A little wooden sailboat, built from a kit by someone local, and very much like the boat my husband would have built had he built one for us.
We take it out tomorrow, on a day that is slated to be breezy and clear. I’ll keep you posted.
If you saw a bunch of different versions of this post, or the final looks different from your email notification, it’s because my fat thumb hit Publish before I was finished writing. Still working on my mobile blogging project ;-).
Dinghys are such fun! I’m in the process of acquiring a 25ft sail boat and can’t wait to get out on the Puget Sound.

Oh my, we too have bought a boat! It has been my husband’s desire for the past 30 years and today he is sailing OUR boat down the coast closer to home. I have to confess his ocean going dream has always been my nightmare. We also did it for the kids and I feel this will be an opportunity for lots of learning…just a little nervous about the process! Will be watching what you write 🙂
