Today I put the finishing touches on the project I’m submitting for an online art exhibition some of us are doing at work. In the final two weeks leading up to the deadline, I finally decided what I’d make: an illustrated list of my favorite drinks. Maybe I’d even take the plunge and add paint to make it a little more special than my everyday journal drawings.
This morning I uploaded a photo of my painting to the website, titled it, added a gallery of photos showing the process that eventually led to the finished piece. I decided to add a list of materials. And since I didn’t label the drinks in the artwork — I wasn’t ready for all the spacing, centering, and lettering intricacies that would require — I decided I’d list the names of the drinks in the description as well.
Which leads me to where I found myself on the internet: “Cocktails and Capitalization” on the MLA Style Center website. Did I get my answer? No. Did I enjoy the fact that I can google “is martini capitalized” and find 98,000 results? Yes, I did, very much.
Make it a Double.
