I always think of spring as being the beautiful season, with its bright pink flowers, its new green leaves, and the reawakening to life after the cold hardness of winter. But the deep tones of fall – the mustards, the rubies – remind me that there is as exquisite a beauty in going to sleep as there is in waking up.
This photograph was taken on a rainy October day in our townhouse parking lot. The mundane scene was beautiful to me, and this photo is my entry to the Daily Post’s Dreamy photo challenge.
Andrea, I was thinking the same this morning as I watched the lake and the way sunlight angled off the waves giving them a depth and texture. Our trees and bushes are still green because warmer lake waters keep air temps a little higher than even a few miles inland. But the light tells us it’s Fall. And soon the earliest trees to drop their leaves, the walnut and catalpa, will remind us too. Of course, when we were in Florida last week the 90 degree temps were a reminder that theirs is an endless spring and summer.

I love that fall slant of light. It’s my favorite lite of the year.

Fall has always been my favorite season, the colours, the crispness. Spring has too much rain. 🙂

My favourite season whereas here in the south west of France it’s still warm, almost summer with people still sunbathing on the beach and a big bright blue sky today.

Big bright blue skies are good too 🙂

That IS beautiful! And the idea that there is beauty in the seeming end of a cycle is actually a pretty profound thought. I appreciate the perspective.

I love the quiet that fall brings. It’s a settling down, a moving inward. I like those calming-down feelings, especially after the high energy, long daylight days of summer.

I lived in Blacksburg for seven very formative and transformative years (I’ve been away now for six) so this struck something of a chord with me. I think there is no finer time than autumn, and no more beautiful place to feel it than in those hills. Nothing profound or insightful in this comment, I just wanted to share it.
